In a gathering marked by celebration, faith, inspiration, and a renewed commitment community educational development, Amb. Dr. Moshood Ismail Abioye graciously served as the Chairman of the 22nd End-of-Year Get-Together (Wolimoh/Convocation) of Al-Furqan Model Schools, Akinyele. The well-attended event brought together students, parents, Islamic scholars, and community stakeholders, highlighting the school’s achievements and reaffirming its mission of academic and moral excellence.
In his address, Dr. Abioye emphasized the supreme value of education, declaring that “the best and most sustainable investment any parent can make is in the education of their children.” He urged families to see learning as the cornerstone of a brighter future, not only for their children but for the entire community.
As part of his commitment to educational advancement, Dr. Abioye announced the donation of tuition-free scholarships to deserving students to study at Mosh Estrella Institute, Ibadan, in affiliation with The Polytechnic, Ibadan. This generous gesture, he said, is targeted at bright minds from low-income backgrounds, ensuring they are not denied further education due to financial constraints.
Dr. Abioye praised the efforts of the school’s proprietor, Mallam Abdulwasii Abd’Ganiyy Arowolo (JP), who also serves as the Amir of the Muslim Community in Akinyele Local Government, for his continued dedication to both moral and academic excellence. He described Mallam Arowolo as a visionary leader whose service to education and the Muslim Ummah is worthy of emulation.
He also took time to appreciate the guest speaker, Imam Abdulkabir Hussein of JIBWIS, Akinyele Chapter, for his impactful lecture and guidance. In a major announcement, Dr. Moshood revealed the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s recent approval of Iroko Community Grammar School as a Centre for Continuing Education, a move that will allow for evening and weekend studies.
Dr. Abioye lauded this development, stating that “the stunted growth and lack of educational progression in Iroko and its surrounding communities have largely been due to the absence of post-secondary institutions.” He affirmed that this new center would provide much-needed access and opportunities for further education within the locality.
In addressing the role of educators, Dr. Abioye urged teachers to go beyond classroom instruction and become true mentors and moral compasses for their students. He reaffirmed his support for the school and pledged to contribute toward its ongoing ICT Centre project, which he described as a critical step in preparing students for global competitiveness.
The respected education advocate called on other community stakeholders, religious leaders, philanthropists, and government agencies to rally behind the vision of improving educational infrastructure across the region. “Institutional development is key to our future. Let us all rise to the challenge of building, supporting, and improving the standard of education in our communities,” he stated.
The event concluded with colorful presentations, Qur’anic recitations, and warm tributes, affirming Al-Furqan Model Schools’ place as a beacon of academic and spiritual excellence in Akinyele Local Government.
