House of Reps Hopeful Urges INEC to Demonstrate Transparency Through Practical Display of Technological Tools Ahead of Elections

A House of Representatives hopeful for Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Amb. Dr. Moshood Ismail Abioye, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to openly demonstrate the technological tools intended for use in the forthcoming general elections, in order to assure Nigerians of transparency and readiness.

Amb. Dr. Moshood made this appeal while reacting to the House of Representatives’ proposal for a single-day election across the country, during an interactive session with Daniel Ademiju Idowu of blitzfm 919fm yesterday morning describing the initiative as a progressive and strategic step toward reducing electoral cost, tension, and logistical difficulties.

He, however, stressed that the success of such a proposal depends largely on INEC’s credibility, preparedness, and public confidence in its technological systems.

“The call for a single-day election is commendable and aligns with democratic advancement. However, Nigerians must be convinced that INEC is truly ready and sincere in its operations. The Commission should therefore practicalize all technological tools, such as BVAS, electronic transmission systems, and collation devices before the elections,” Amb. Dr. Moshood stated.

He further advised that INEC organize an open public symposium or fair demonstration of all the technologies to be used, with invitations extended to renowned media houses, civil society organizations, security agencies, political parties, and other major stakeholders across Nigeria.

“Such an open exercise will not only strengthen public trust but will also demonstrate that INEC’s systems are transparent, secure, fair and not susceptible to manipulation by those at the helm of government affairs,” he added.

Amb. Dr. Moshood emphasized that transparency and practical readiness remain the strongest assurances of free, fair, and credible elections, calling on the National Assembly and civil organizations to support and monitor such public tests.

He concluded by noting that Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when citizens are confident in the institutions managing their collective will, urging INEC to prioritize openness, accountability, fairness, interdependence and nationwide confidence-building ahead of the next polls.
