The Founder of the Moshood Ajadi Foundation, Otunba (Amb.) Dr. Abioye Ajadi, has called on leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to urgently resolve internal disputes through dialogue, compromise, and political maturity, warning against actions that could weaken democracy or the party’s relevance.
Otunba Abioye noted that political disagreements are natural in parties, but emphasized that when conflicts shift to personal rivalries or involve intimidation, the consequences are harmful to both democracy and political institutions.
“Political parties are normal places for disagreements. As we say in some corners of my local government, ‘Ile alariwo ni won ti n pariwo’ debates and arguments happen where people are outspoken. But when conflicts become personal battles instead of ideological debates, the party suffers, and democracy struggles to survive.”
Dr Abioye commended the efforts of respected leaders like Bukola Saraki, former president Goodluck Jonathan noting recent appeals for negotiations between factions are a positive example of responsible leadership.
“I call on all party elders and leaders to join hands in constructive dialogue. Mediation and compromise, like those advocated by Senator Saraki, former president Goodluck are necessary to prevent further discord and restore trust within the party.”
Highlighting the dangers of returning to violent or coercive political methods, Amb Ismail .A. Ajadi warned:
“I advise all political actors not to revisit the old styles of politics, marked by thuggery or intimidation, whether from recent incidents in the Congress of Parties, aggressive tactics by APC, or fictional depictions of PDP factions. Such approaches are weak, counterproductive, and can escalate dangerously if they involve the wrong person, “Consider a conflict where any action provokes a stronger counteraction, echoing the Powell Doctrine of decisive retaliation.”
He stressed that political disputes should be resolved through peaceful negotiation, compromise, and a win-some, lose-some approach.
“It will not bring joy to loyal party members or aspirants if a leader’s ego jeopardizes political ambitions. Many committed members hoping to contest elections under the party platform depend on stable and united leadership. Breaking fences of trust among camps only weakens the party and democracy itself.”
Oloye Ajadi concluded by emphasizing that reconciliation, dialogue, and political maturity are essential not only for the party but for the wellbeing of the nation.
“Peaceful politics is the foundation of democracy. Let us choose dialogue over rivalry, unity over division, and maturity over ego, for the sake of Nigeria and its citizens.”
