DEMOCRACY DAY: OYO STATE ASPIRANTS FORUM CALLS FOR ACTIVE POLITICAL PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT FOR APM’S VISION TO RESET NIGERIA

The Oyo State Aspirants Forum has called on Nigerians, particularly the people of Oyo State, to remain politically active and committed to the democratic process as the nation marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

In a statement issued by the Forum’s Public Relations Officer, the Forum described June 12 as a historic reminder of the sacrifices made by democratic heroes who fought tirelessly for justice, freedom, and the right of citizens to determine their leaders through the ballot box.

The Forum noted that democracy should not merely be measured by the conduct of elections but by the quality of life enjoyed by the people through improved security, economic prosperity, quality education, healthcare delivery, employment opportunities, and social welfare.

While acknowledging the progress recorded in Oyo State through purposeful governance and developmental initiatives, the Forum maintained that the level of development witnessed in the state deserves to be replicated across Nigeria. According to the Forum, the achievements recorded in Oyo State demonstrate that visionary leadership and people-oriented governance can transform society when leaders place public interest above personal gain.

The Forum expressed concern over the current challenges facing many Nigerians, including insecurity, poverty, unemployment, inflation, and declining living standards. It stressed that these realities require citizens to become more involved in politics rather than withdrawing from the democratic process.

“The political situation in our country today demands greater civic responsibility from all citizens. Democracy can only thrive when the people remain engaged, informed, and committed to holding leaders accountable. The future of Nigeria cannot be left in the hands of a few while the majority remain indifferent,” the statement noted.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the Forum called on Nigerians to carefully evaluate candidates and support leaders with proven commitment to good governance, accountability, development, and the welfare of the people.

The Forum further encouraged citizens who share the ideals and vision of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to support and vote for APM candidates from the grassroots to the highest levels of government, describing the party as a movement committed to resetting Nigeria through responsible leadership, people-centered policies, and sustainable development.

According to the Forum, the task of rebuilding Nigeria requires leaders who are driven by service, competence, integrity, and genuine concern for the people rather than politics of personal survival and self-interest.

The Oyo State Aspirants Forum therefore urged Nigerians to use the occasion of Democracy Day to renew their commitment to nation-building, political participation, peaceful coexistence, and collective action toward a better future.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us remember that the future of Nigeria depends on the choices we make today. Let us remain active, participate responsibly, and support leaders who possess the vision, character, and capacity to move our nation forward. Together, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams.”
