World Teachers’ Day: Abioye Ajadi Celebrates Teachers, Calls for Greater Investment in Education
By Our Correspondent
As the world marks World Teachers’ Day, education advocate and Founder of Mosh Estrella Institute, and Moshood AjadiFoundation, Amb. Dr. Chief Moshood Abioye Ajadi, has celebrated teachers across Nigeria and the world, describing them as indispensable builders of human capacity and critical agents of national development.
Chief Abioye, in his message commemorating the day, said teachers deserve not only appreciation but sustained support, professional development and an enabling environment to perform their responsibilities effectively.
According to him, the role of a teacher goes far beyond standing in front of a classroom to deliver lessons.
“A teacher is an instructor, a facilitator, a role model, a counsellor, a classroom manager, an assessor and, most importantly, an agent of social change.”
He noted that virtually every profession in society is connected to the work of teachers, stressing that doctors, engineers, lawyers, administrators, entrepreneurs, scientists, political leaders and other professionals all passed through the hands of teachers at different stages of their development.
Amb Abioye Ajadi said teachers have the unique responsibility of not only transferring knowledge but also building character, inspiring confidence, developing critical thinking and awakening the potential of young people.
He stated that a teacher’s influence can extend beyond the classroom and shape the future of families, communities and nations.
“Behind many successful people is a teacher who believed in them when they were still discovering themselves. That is why we must never underestimate the power and influence of a good teacher,” he said.
The education advocate, however, stressed that celebrating teachers once a year should not be the end of society’s responsibility towards them.
He called on governments at all levels, policymakers, education administrators, private organisations, parents and other stakeholders to prioritise teachers’ welfare and professional development.
He advocated improved working conditions, adequate teaching and learning materials, continuous training, modern educational technology and policies that would enable teachers to perform their duties effectively.
According to him, a nation that desires a better future must invest in the people responsible for educating its future generation.
Chief Abioye further called for greater integration of digital literacy and technology into teaching, noting that education must continuously evolve to prepare students for the demands of the modern economy.
He also urged parents and members of the public to respect teachers and cooperate with them in raising responsible young people.
“Teachers don’t simply teach lessons; they help create the people who will write tomorrow’s history. Their contribution to society may not always receive immediate recognition, but the impact of their work can last for generations,” Abioye added.
While congratulating teachers on the occasion, he commended those who continue to serve with dedication despite the challenges confronting the education sector.
He said:
“To every teacher who continues to teach despite the challenges, thank you for your sacrifice, your patience and your commitment. Thank you for shaping lives and building the future.”
He wished teachers across Nigeria and the world a happy and memorable World Teachers’ Day, urging society to make the appreciation of teachers a continuous responsibility rather than an annual ceremony.
Happy World Teachers’ Day to every teacher who is making a difference, one learner at a time.
