PRESS RELEASE: Moshood Ajadi Foundation Founder Calls President Bola Ahmed for Immediate Restoration of Full Fuel Subsidy

The Founder of the Moshood Ajadi Foundation, Moshood Ajadi, has called on the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently reconsider the removal of fuel subsidy and restore it fully in the interest of the Nigerian masses.

Speaking on the worsening economic hardship across the country, Otunba Ajadi expressed deep concern over the rising cost of living triggered by the sharp increase in fuel prices following the subsidy removal policy. According to him, the policy has placed enormous pressure on ordinary Nigerians whose livelihoods depend heavily on transportation and energy costs.

Chief Ajadi noted that while the government justified the subsidy removal on the grounds of preventing corruption and saving public funds, the burden of addressing these institutional failures should not be transferred to citizens.

“Fuel subsidy was never the fundamental problem. The real issue has always been corruption, leakages, and weak accountability within the system. Addressing corruption should focus on strengthening oversight and prosecuting offenders rather than shifting the consequences of governance failures onto the people,” he stated.

He further explained that fuel remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economic activities, stressing that increases in petrol prices automatically translate to higher transportation costs, food prices, and operating expenses for small businesses.

Ajadi also raised concerns about the continued high cost of governance, noting that Nigerians still witness significant government spending on political office holders, luxury convoys, allowances, and administrative overheads.

“In a situation where the cost of governance remains extremely high, it becomes difficult to justify policies that deepen the economic suffering of ordinary citizens. Government must demonstrate leadership by reducing waste and prioritizing the welfare of the people,” he added.

The Moshood Ajadi Foundation founder further questioned the effectiveness of palliative measures introduced to cushion the effects of subsidy removal, noting that such interventions are often temporary and poorly distributed.

According to him, Nigeria, as a major oil-producing nation, should ensure that the benefits of its natural resources translate into improved living conditions for its citizens.

Ajadi therefore urged the Federal Government to immediately review the current fuel pricing policy and restore full fuel subsidy while simultaneously implementing strong anti-corruption measures and reducing the cost of governance.

“At this critical moment in our national life, government policies must reflect compassion, responsibility, and commitment to the welfare of Nigerians. Restoring full fuel subsidy, alongside genuine reforms in governance, will help stabilize the economy and relieve the growing hardship faced by millions of citizens,” he concluded.
